別名メガネモチノウオ。ベラ科では世界最大で、老成魚の突出した前額部がナポレオンの帽子に似る事からこの名前がつきました。性転換をする魚で、生まれた時は全てメスで成熟した後、群れの中の大きな1匹がオスになります。

Also known as the humphead wrasse, the Napoleonfish is the largest of the wrasse family in the world, and was given this name because the prominent forehead that develops in old adult resembles the hat worn by Napoleon. It is a sex-changing fish, as all of them are female at birth, and after they mature, the largest one in the school turns into a male.
