同属のネオンテトラと似ていますが、腹部の赤いラインが頭から尾びれの付け根まであり、より派手な色彩を持ち、成魚ではカージナルテトラの方がやや大きくなります。

Similar to the Neon Tetra of the same genus, but with a red line on the abdomen from head to base of the caudal fin. The Cardinal Tetra has more flamboyant coloration and grows slightly larger as an adult than the Neon Tetra.
