スマトラは鰭が綺麗な赤色で体側に黒色の縞模様が4本あるのが特徴です。水槽内をあちこちと忙しそうに泳ぎ回り、気性が荒く活発な性格です。別名「タイガーバルブ」と呼ばれています。

The Sumatra Barb is characterized by its beautiful red fins and four black stripes on the body side. It swims busily here and there in the aquarium, and has a rough and vivacious temperament. Once it gears into action, it enters into attack mode, hence its nickname, the “tiger barb.”
