チンアナゴは基本的に穴を掘り砂の中で生活していますが、ウンチは巣穴の外で出します。そして用を足すとすぐ巣穴に戻ります。名前は、顔が犬の「狆」（チン）に似ていることが由来です。

Spotted Garden Eels generally dig holes in the sand and live inside, but they discharge their feces outside of their burrows. As soon as they have finished relieving themselves, they return back into their burrows. The Japanese name, “Chin Anago,” comes from the resemblance of its face of a Japanese Chin.
