闘魚として有名ですが、慣れてくるとエサの時間に寄ってきたりする人懐っこい魚です。ラビリンス器官と呼ばれる特殊な器官を持ち、エラ呼吸以外に空気中から酸素を得る事ができます。

Although known as a fighting fish, the Betta is a friendly fish that will come up to you at feeding time once it is accustomed to your presence. It has a special organ called the labyrinth organ, which allows it to obtain oxygen from the air in addition to gill breathing.
