昭和6年に横浜で作られた中国原産の「和蘭獅子頭」と「三色出目金」を掛け合わせ作出したものを東京の金魚商の高橋鉄次郎氏が命名したと言われています。

It is said that Mr. Tetsujiro Takahashi, a goldfish dealer from Tokyo, named it Azuma Nishiki after crossbreeding the Oranda Shishigashira and the Calico Telescope, which originated in China and were bred in Yokohama in 1931.
